The International HIV/AIDS Alliance is currently recruiting for the Key Correspondents network<http://www.keycorrespondents.org/>, a citizen journalism programme which helps get the voices of those most affected by HIV into global debates.
You
don't need to have a journalism background to become a Key
Correspondent (KC), but we are interested in people who are passionate
about communicating on HIV issues, particularly those who have been
affected by HIV - either personally, or through their
friends/family/community/work.
Our
editorial policy and KC agreement are attached which explain what we
offer KCs and the commitment KCs need to make in return.
As
our correspondents are volunteers they do not get paid, although there
are a number of benefits to joining the network, which include the
following opportunities that are exclusive to members:
* Bespoke mentoring and training to build skills in news reporting, blogging, social media and digital media.
*
Publishing your work on an international platform (our website),
and support to raise the profile of you and your work through social
media and our partnerships with other regional and international media
platforms.
* Regular updates on global opportunities for fellowships, grants etc.
*
Building specific communication skills (such as blogging or
video) by attending Key Correspondents workshops - run once a year with
limited spaces for which KCs have the opportunity to apply.
* The opportunity to pitch for paid work - we commission about 10-15 articles a year for which we pay USD100.
* Attendance at international/regional conferences - we support at least two members each year and cover all costs.
*
Bursaries of up to $300 (when budget allows, we provide around 5
per year), which can be used to buy equipment or to meet a training
need identified by the KC.
The next opportunity to join Key Correspondents is in March, with the deadline for applications being 1 March. If you are interested in applying, please fill out the form on the Key Correspondents website: http://www.keycorrespondents.org/about/join-the-kc-team/
We will keep all applications on file until we review them in March.
Your application will need to cover the following questions:
* What is your motivation for wanting to join the Key Correspondents Programme?
* Why is HIV an issue of personal importance to you?
* Details of previous experience you have of writing articles or blogging
*
Details of any other skills that would be relevant, ie:
photography, film making, radio reporting, social media, campaigning
You
can also send copies of any articles you have previously written to
support your application to the KC editor and coordinator Sarah
Oughton: soughton@aidsalliance.org<mailto:soughton@aidsalliance.org>
But
don't worry if you haven't written stories previously, the most
important thing is to be passionate about communicating on HIV issues,
and training will be provided via email.
