Description
CHIEF GEOLOGIST
Reporting to the Technical Services Manager we seek to appoint a Chief Geologist at our Bulyanhulu gold mining operation.
The purpose of this position is to lead the Geology & Diamond Drill department and ensure the systematic collation, validation & interpretation of all relevant geological data and use this to generate & comprehensively document accurate mineral resource estimates for mineralization in and around the Bulyanhulu Gold Mine and to continuously improve personnel, systems & standards with the Geology & Diamond Drill departments.

KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Provide leadership to ensure that all Geology & Diamond Drill personnel adhere to safety standards that exceed industry practice and any applicable legislative provisions.
• Ensure the achievement of agreed targets for the department in terms of :
• Budgeted costs
• Budget grade control targets
• Budgeted Diamond Drilling targets
• Budgeted Resource additions
• Delineation of and reporting of resources
• Effectively train and develop Tanzanian Geologists
• Develop a sound understanding of the Geological controls of mineralization in the Bulyanhulu area and build on this understanding to further refine target generation & improve the accuracy of resource estimates
• Apply geological understanding and experience to review & interpret all data sets from local Barrick leases in order to identify prospective targets, rank these & propose exploratory programs for testing them
• Ensure all data & documentation required to support & validate the Bulyanhulu resource (& it’s method of calculation) is kept in a logical & systematic manner.
• Ensure that the resource figures are routinely reconciled with mine & mill production in order to ensure that the resource estimate is continually improved.
• Professional leadership and technical support to the geology team. Development and implementation of effective training and mentoring programmes.
• Develop, implement and monitor systems to ensure geology and assay databases are complete, accurate and accessible.
• Ensure timely and accurate geology inputs to facilitate the preparation of mine plans.
• Continually review every aspect of departmental operations to identify and implement opportunities to add value to the operation & company
• Create a work climate, which ensures that all activities and processes in the geology department (reserve definition and estimation, grade control sampling and ore recovery, prediction of mining tonnes and grades) are constantly reviewed and continually improved.
• Participate in the senior management team of BGML to ensure that company targets for resource exploitation, capital management, cost control, safe working, employee development environmental management performance and corporate governance are achieved.
• Maintain a high degree of cost control at all times

PROFESSIONAL SKILLS
Education Requirements: • Bachelor of Applied Science, majoring in Geology. Preference will be given to Honours graduates.

Experience Requirements:
• A Minimum of 10 years of mineral resource evaluation & generation experience in an operational underground mining environment, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
• A significant portion of this experience will have been spent within precious metal mines, where a variety of mining techniques, including narrow vein conventional, mining are utilised.
• The incumbent should be familiar with the practice of estimation within deposits of a ‘nuggety’ nature & ideally be regarded as a ‘Competent Person’ in resource and reserve estimation for this deposit style
• Strong modeling, geo-statistical & grade estimation skills
• Intermediate to Advanced Datamine skills
• Clear and concise communicator – both written & verbally
• Supervisory experience is essential
• Diamond drilling techniques, including exposure to semi-directional &/or directional drilling
• Resource estimation
• Access/SQL databases
• G.I.S.
