atmosfair runs a CDM Gold Standard Programme of Activities in Nigeria under which improved firewood cook stoves are sold at reduced prices to end users throughout Nigeria who previously cooked on inefficient traditional fireplaces.

To ensure further expansion of the programme and the timely issuance of carbon credits, atmosfair is looking for a carbon programme manager based in Nigeria with the following tasks:

Tasks

·         Cook stove Distribution
o    Oversee and steer distribution partners and their sales strategies
o    Recruit new distribution partners
o    Accurate reporting of sales activities and numbers of stoves in Nigeria
o    Optimise supply chains/ distribution channels with the aim to minimize operating costs and to maximize direct contact and follow up with end users
o    Train new distribution partners on sales and monitoring requirements
o    Arrange for transport and stocking of cook stoves
o    Customs Clearance of cook stove containers in Lagos Harbour and handling of all customs issues

·         Monitoring
o    Ensure tracking of stoves from landing in Nigeria to sales to the end user
o    Ensure collection of end user receipts by distributors
o    Ensure transfer of end user details into local and centralized computer based sales database
o    Annual stove user survey campaigns (one month) covering about 200 users across Nigeria
o    Prepare, organize and be responsible for annual UN auditor on site verification of monitoring

·         Government and Administration
o    Solicit support and approval from federal and local government authorities

·         Public relation
o    Promoting the atmosfair brand
o    Acquisition of funds and support programmes (MFIs, international donor programs, grants etc.)

·         Any other task as decided from time to time to move the programme forward


Required Skills

·         Results based working attitude and strong commercial awareness
·         Excellent communication & organizational skills
·         Well-developed quantitative and analytical abilities
·         Computer (Word, Excel, Access) and internet affinity
·         Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
·         Ability to streamline conflicting interests of programme stakeholders
·         Excellent English language skills, Hausa or other local language skills are an asset
·         Integrity and commitment to high ethical standards

Education & Work experience

·         Bachelor’s degree or higher
·         3-5 years working experience in end user technologies and/ or supply chain management with proven success
·         Experience with CDM or other carbon standards

Location

·         Office in Nigeria, preferably in the centre, good internet connection essential
·         Frequent travel within Nigeria required, also to remote areas

Salary

·         Fixed monthly salary, depending on qualification of the applicant
·         1 year full time (40 hrs week) contract with possibility of extension

Dear ATHENA colleagues and partners:


From September 17-20, 2013, UNAIDS, UNDP, UNFPA, UNICEF, UN Women, WHO, the
ATHENA Network, and Sonke Gender Justice with regional partners will
convene a regional workshop on *Strategies to integrate gender-based
violence and engage men and boys to advance gender equality through
national HIV strategies and plans.* ****

**

The meeting (which will have simultaneous English/French translation) is
the fourth in a series as called for by the UNAIDS Agenda for Accelerated
Country Action for Women, Girls, Gender Equality, and HIV (Nairobi December
2010, Istanbul November 2011, Johannesburg 2012). Its purpose is to
increase attention and action to address gender-based violence in national
HIV strategies and plans and other critical policies, and to strengthen
partnerships for action on gender-based violence and the engagement of men
and boys for gender equality in the context of HIV. It will pay particular
attention to programming to address GBV and HIV in conflict and
post-conflict contexts, and will emphasize the importance of including the
needs and rights of young people in national responses. The workshop will
sharpen the capacity of multi-sectoral teams from Burundi, DRC, Cote
d’Ivoire, Senegal, Ghana, and Cameroon to integrate these issues into
national plans and strategies (including in humanitarian responses).
Representatives
from Nigeria will participate as a resource country.

*Country Selection and Delegations*

Participating delegations will be comprised of representatives from across
government, the UN, and civil society. We are writing to request
nominations for civil society delegates as follows (noting that due to the
budgetary constraints, we will only be able to invite a very few of those
who are nominated):

**- **One civil society representative with specific expertise in
women’s rights and addressing gender-based violence,****

**- **One civil society representative from a network of women
living with or affected by HIV, and****

**- **One civil society representative from an organization
engaging men and boys for gender equality preferably with specific
expertise in addressing gender-based violence.****

UNAIDS West and Central Africa Regional Support Team, UNAIDS Interagency
Working Group on Women, Girls, Gender Equality and HIV, the ATHENA Network,
Sonke Gender Justice, and other partners.


The ATHENA Network, in collaboration with all the partners, will be
responsible for the logistics, organization and coordination of the
meeting, including travel arrangements for the participants, with the
support and guidance of the UNAIDS RST.****

CIVICUS’ Strategy Unit is responsible within CIVICUS for supporting the Secretary General in the design, development and delivery of CIVICUS’ strategy and new strategic initiatives and projects.

In particular, the unit overlooks the following:
Support for effective governance, including the CIVICUS Board of Directors;
Coordinating all aspects of the Secretary General’s Office;
Developing and designing new projects with strategic significance;
Building CIVICUS’ presence and voice around the world;
Compliance with non-statutory and accountability governance and reporting requirements;
During 2013, planning, monitoring and evaluating CIVICUS’ new 5 year strategy through implementing CIVICUS’ Impact Planning and Learning Framework.

Strategy and Evaluation Internship:
Under the supervision of CIVICUS’ Head of Strategy based in the UK, the intern will assist in implementing CIVICUS’ Impact Planning and Learning Framework, contribute to CIVICUS’ strategic initiatives and projects, and strengthen CIVICUS’ partnerships and outreach in the UK and Europe.

Depending on the competencies and interests of the intern, specific assignments will include:
Designing and implementing, as part of the Impact Planning and Learning Framework, a 2013 constituent survey for monitoring CIVICUS’ new 5-year strategic plan;
Preparing CIVICUS’ monthly organisational dashboard and incrementally improving the indicators and the response rates to generate increasingly useful information;
Administering, gathering, analysing and reporting back "signs of impact" from CIVICUS’ work;
Strengthening partnerships with donors and members in the UK and Europe, including working on specific new projects;
Assisting with CIVICUS’ global coordination work as part of the CIVICUS-NCVO-ANND Building Bridges project;
Supporting CIVICUS’ Youth Advisory Group by setting up and minuting meetings;
Contributing to other activities and components of the Strategy Unit’s work, as required.

Learning opportunities for the intern:
General understanding of the work and mission of CIVICUS, the role of civil society, and the role of alliance members and partners in the UK, Europe and around the world;
Insight and hands-on experience in monitoring and evaluating civil society strengthening and programme performance within an international organisation;
Experience in working with a leading, Southern-based, global civil society alliance and in a multicultural environment;
Understanding of the concept and practical reality of civic space and civil society by accessing relevant CIVICUS and other publications.

The ideal candidate should have the following qualifications, knowledge, skills and experience:
Essential:
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in international development, politics, international relations, sociology or public policy;
Strong understanding of the role of civil society and citizen action;
Some previous experience in monitoring, evaluation, planning and/or project delivery;
Some previous experience in building and managing relationships, ideally from a distance;
Excellent written and verbal communications skills;
Fluency in English;
Internet proficiency as well as proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Desirable:
Master’s Degree or equivalent in international development, politics, international relations, sociology or public policy;
Proficiency in an additional language (French, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Russian, or Chinese).

YOUNG LEADERS EXCHANGE 2013


The British Council, in partnership with NCVO is excited to announce the 2013 Young Leaders Exchange programme. Funded by The British Council, this innovative new programme is designed to connect future leaders from the North Africa Region and the UK. The initiative aims to strengthen the capability of emerging leaders in these regions and build new, mutually beneficial relationships with them.

The programme will consist of two exchanges; a one-week visit to the UK (September 2013) and a one-week visit to Tunisia (November 2013).

The Leadership Programme will be a combination of theory and practical learning in the form of seminars and workshops, relating to personal development, knowledge building and study visits; all in areas of Civil Society, Arts, Culture, Politics (governmental reform), Education, Business and Media.

It will also consist of visits to organisations active in these fields, for an opportunity to see best practise and network. There will be an opportunity to attend part of the high-profile Hammamet Conference, Tunisia in November 2013.

During the two weeks, young leaders will participate to discussions, workshops, field visits and networking activities.

We are seeking applications from exceptional young leaders in the UK and North Africa, aged 18-35 who are currently engaged within civil society. This can be through various activities; youth wings of political parties, NGOs, Universities, business organisations, media, think tanks, or your own blog. As long as you show a strong passion for civil society activism and have demonstrated leadership abilities, you are welcome to apply – an interest international development and cooperation would also be advantage.

We hope to develop a social media platform and create an environment for possible future collaborations and projects to facilitate networking. We encourage participants to keep this in mind.

All travel costs, rooms and board will be covered.
