2014 SafirLab program for young people from North Africa.

The program SafirLab allows young people from Egypt, Jordan, Libya, Morocco, Tunisia, and Yemen, carrying new initiatives in the fields of media or civil society to develop their projects and share their experience
The Institut Français (IF) and CFI, operators of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development, have established a program dedicated to young “actors of change” committed to the new social dynamics in Egypt, Jordan, Libya, Morocco, Tunisia and Yemen. This program, called SafirLab, is an annual program inviting the youth of these countries to a mentorship and experience-sharing platform. It will take place in Paris for two weeks.
The objective of SafirLab is to create a sustainable dialogue with young people between the ages of 20 and 30 who are committed to the issues of citizenship, media and local governance. Designed as a “cradle” for projects, it supports this youth in their journey to realise their professional or associative project by offering them mentorship and personalised tools and methods.
Participants:
Around twenty young actors, offering initiatives related to citizenship, local governance, as well as media, and participating in the evolution and the dynamism of their country’ s civil society, will benefit from this program.

Young Education for Sustainable Development Leaders Participate in UNESCO ESD Youth Conference

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the Government of Japan are jointly organizing Education for Sustainable Development(ESD) Youth Conference. Young ESD leaders around the world committed to built a better future through education are invited to participate in the conference to be held in Okayama City, Japan on 7 November 2014.
The conference majorly aims to provide a platform for ESD youth leaders from around the world to engage in dialogue and peer learning to enhance their ESD practices. Fifty (50) young ESD leaders from around the world will be brought together to share their success stories and innovative ESD initiatives. Other participants will be 20-30 observers from ESD/youth-related organizations in Okayama and other parts of Japan.
Benefits:
  1. Opportunity to exchange ideas and experiences with peers. Participants will get platform to discuss innovative approaches to ESD and ways to promote young people’s contribution and further involvement in the global ESD movement.
  2. Participants will also be involved in developing recommendations for the UNESCO World Conference on ESD. The UNESCO World Conference will be held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan from 10-12 November 2014.
The successful applicants will receive travel sponsorship – roundtrip air tickets, accommodation, meals and transportation within Japan.

Eligibility Criteria:
  • Candidate must be 18-35 years of age with demonstrated active engagement in the field of Education for Sustainable Development.
  • Candidates must have a good command of English, and be able to actively participate in conference discussions.
  • Candidates must commit to attend the full schedule of events in Japan from 6-13 November 2014.
Interested Young ESD leaders must complete the application form and submit via email. Recommendation letter from a head or officer of an ESD/youth-related organization or institution stating the applicant’s engagement and relevant competency in ESD is must.

Engaging Youth As Agents Of Change

Thanks for the continuous update and apologies for not being able to revert earlier.
We will be attending the SIDS event as the themes being discussed are similar to our Climate Change event tentatively scheduled for the 3rd Quarter of this year.

The ongoing discussions will be of interest to us though we may not be able to participate directly due to a busy schedule but will try out best to contribute .


In the meantime we would also like to inform you that World Youth Foundation will be hosting a Multi-stakeholders Meeting: Violence Against Women "Engaging Youth As Agents Of Change" tentatively scheduled to be held from 21st - 23rd June 2014 at Melaka, Malaysia.

Participation to the event is by invitation only and limited to a maximum of 30 delegates only. There is no registration fee charged. Airport transfer for pick-up/departure (by flight-foreign participants only), accommodation and meals (breakfast, lunch and tea breaks) will be provided by the sponsors of this event. Participants will have to bear their own travel expenses. Please note that we are not able to support any request for financial assistance either in full or part due to limited funds. The event is open to young people between the ages 18-32 years, youth leaders and workers between the ages 33-40 years, NGOs, youth ministries, international NGOs, regional platforms, multilateral organization, etc (preferably between the ages 18-55).
